Having
thought about it a minute, here's what I would say:
I certainly
don't recall that Governor Perry was the campagin chair. He
was an up- and -coming state legislator and we welcomed his
endorsement-- which he gave-- and we may have named him to a
"steering committee" or as one of several campaign
"co-chairs," typically honorific
titles with no real role. Gore was generally positioned
as the more conservative of the Democrats in the primary and
Perry, like other conservative Democrats in the state,
found then-Senator Gore to be the candidate closest to their
views. He wasn't highly involved in the
campaign, however, and had zero operational
responsibilty.
