DGA Chair Martin O’Malley On Rick Perry’s Vow to “Take America Back”

 

Washington, DC—Governor Martin O’Malley, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, released the following statement on Texas Governor Rick Perry’s pledge to “take America back” in a speech to New York Republicans last night:

 

“Americans are right to be skeptical when they hear Governor Rick Perry vow to ‘take America back.’ When Republicans like Governor Perry say they want to take America back, we ought to ask them ‘back to what?’  Back through the trail of record job losses, record foreclosures, small businesses losses, and bank system wreckage of the Bush recession?

 

“We have still have a long way to go on our nation’s job recovery, but the last thing we need is to go back to the failed policies that got us into this economic mess. We must focus, like President Obama has, on making responsible budget cuts, as well as the smart decisions and smart investments that create more jobs and opportunity now. As the Governor who relied most on stimulus funds to close his state’s budget deficit in 2010, Rick Perry surely understands the value of the President’s investments.”
