I first came across the study which mentioned that San Antonio has
the highest number of same-sex couples raising children in the
Dallas Voice.
http://www.dallasvoice.com/samesex-parenting-study-1062107.html
According to their snapshot San Antonio has 1,180 Houston has 2,458
and Dallas has 3,178 same-sex couples that are raising children. In
the three cities, this comes out to 6,816 total.
I had to dig to find the data for Austin itself when I first did the
looking around and I forgot to bookmark the data but will look for
that for you as well.

As per the statement in my release, My research shows a bit of an
error as I was in a rush to find the statistic when I wrote it.
According to :
http://www2.law.ucla.edu/williamsinstitute/publications/TexasCensusSnapshot.pdf
There are 2984 Same-sex couples in Travis county. When I read that,
I mistakenly married that to the other set of statistics that I
already had.
http://www.dallasvoice.com/samesex-parenting-study-1062107.html
According to their snapshot
San Antonio has 1,180
Houston has 2,458
Dallas has 3,178
same-sex couples that are raising children.
6,816 total.
It's impossible for Austin to make up 1,184 same-sex couples raising
children when in all of Travis county there are only (comparatively)
2,984 same-sex couples.
There's another report from the Williams Institute here as well http://www2.law.ucla.edu/williamsinstitute/publications/TexasCensusSnapshot.pdf
